Strong Year-to-Date Growth From January to April 2025, global EV sales reached 5.6 million units, maintaining a 29% year-on-year rise, signaling sustained momentum in the shift toward electrification.

Regional Growth Highlights

•  China: Sales soared 35% year-on-year (Jan-Apr), with April alone up 32%.

•  Europe: A 25% increase (Jan-Apr), accelerating to 35% growth in April.

•  Rest of the World: Sales jumped 37% (Jan-Apr), with April seeing an impressive 51% surge.

•  North America: Despite a slight dip in April, year-to-date sales remain 5% higher than 2024 levels.

Policy Driving Expansion Charles Lester, Rho Motion’s Data Manager, highlighted that Europe’s strong performance is fueled by stricter emissions regulations, while China’s domestic manufacturers continue to gain market share. Christian Brand, an Oxford University professor, noted that government policies—not just technology—are shaping the EV race, with China and Europe leading due to consistent support, while the U.S. faces uncertainty over potential tariff changes. The global EV market shows no signs of slowing down, with rising demand across major regions reinforcing the transition to electric mobility.
